Bio

The Rani is a genius. Shame I can't stand her. I wonder if I was particularly nice to her, she might -- nope, no, of course not...
---The Doctor (Mark of the Rani)

The Rani.

Exiled from Gallifrey when her lab mice grew to an enormous size and devoured the Lord President's cat, the Rani isn't your typical villain. She's not interested in universal domination or power: instead, she just wants to be left alone to do her research. She's a genius (even the Doctor admits that), though one with what others would call a singular lack of ethics. She has been known to enslave entire planets (such as Miasimia Goria) in order to have a ready supply of experimental subjects and a place to carry out her experiments uninterrupted, and she saw no issue in using humans to produce a chemical she needed for her work there. After all, they weren't using it for anything important, were they?

Quite.

The Rani's specialty (and area of interest) is the biochemistry of various species, though it's shown that she's a genius in other areas (though not, as it turns out, thermodynamics). From working on dinosaur embryos to bioengineering a time manipulator, she finds tinkering with other, lesser species to be the most fascinating. Unfortunately, she doesn't really care about them as anything other than subjects for her experiments. Makes her come off a bit, er, callous.

What's he up to now? It'll be something devious and overcomplicated. He'd get dizzy if he tried to walk in a straight line.

Your regeneration's not too attractive, either. But at least I can change my appearance; you're stuck with what you've got.
---The Rani re: The Doctor (Mark of the Rani)

The Rani's relationships with the Doctor and the Master looks to be rather complicated. The Doctor, the Rani, and the Master all went to school together (which certainly seems apparent considering the almost juvenile sort of bickering they indulge in when all three are brought together during The Mark of the Rani...), but while there's not much known of exactly what they got up to in the Academy, it is at least obvious that they know each other rather well. The Rani isn't impressed with the Master (which isn't surprising, considering) and seems to find the Doctor at least a genius in some areas and thus, worth her time on occasion... even if he does blather on about how she's a heartless psychopath far too often for her patience.

They're carnivores; what harm have the animals in the fields done them? The rabbits they snare, the sheep they nourish to slaughter -- do they worry about the lesser species when they sink their teeth into a lamb chop?
---The Rani re: humans (Mark of the Rani)

The last seen of the Rani had her being carted off by the Tetraps, who decided to take her back to Tetrapyriarbus to help them with their larger tasks. She didn't look particularly pleased about this.

For [info]heroesque and all related communities: she is on her second regeneration, a leggy blonde (no, she's not happy about that and mentioning it could very well get you kicked somewhere unpleasant) with bright green eyes and a cold smile that could stop a salamander in it's tracks. She has survived the Time War, though more than likely won't tell you how or why she wasn't on Gallifrey when it was destroyed, and continues with her experiments as per usual.

For [info]milliways_bar and [info]relativespace and all related communities: she is on her first regeneration (which totally wins her the Time Lord Olympics for Not Dying) and comes from just after the events of The Rani Reaps the Whirlwind. This places her, at present, sans TARDIS. She's a severe brunette who tends towards pseudo-futuristic clothing (that sort of looks like it came from the 80's) and has a glare that could make paint peel from the wall.

The Rani [as portrayed by Kate O'Mara and, for certain games, Zoe Lucker (see here as to explanation for casting choice)] is from the long-running Doctor Who and as such, is the property of the BBC. This journal is for role-play purposes only, entertainment, and as such no profit is being made and no infringement is intended.
